For I know the purpose of the sun that does shine,
Its warmth, beauty, and light are all mine.
Regardless of the events in my life which transpire,
There shines the sun, a symbol of persistence and desire.
Each and every day, it rises, never fading,
Looking to the sky I’m forced to begin contemplating,
Why was the Earth provided such a gift?
Apart from the light may never we drift,
For as surely as the sun shines each day,
Humanity will need hope when things go astray.
And the sun will continue to be firm, strong, and true,
Warming the earth, warming me, warming you.
In times uncertain I have no doubt,
Mother Earth will have light, inside and out.
As time crumbles and hours decay,
Let us not hesitate nor us delay,
In offering thanksgiving for the sun’s brilliance,
Inspiring hope, power, and resilience.

The author's comments:

While out on a family hike, I had the privelege of witnessing one of the most spectactular sunsets I have ever seen in person or in a picture. I couldn't help but succumb to the overwhelming feeling of relative humility one feels when compared with something so expanisve and powerful. The moment of appreciation and purposeful thought provided a spark to my appreciation of life in general.
