Awaiting
When every single light on Earth dies
and the Sun sets for the final time
When the Earth begins to freeze
and the moon lets go of the tides
When all starlight in the cosmos distinguishes
and every life form on Earth congregates to inhale their final breath
When time finally stops
and all oxygen runs out
Not until the heavens turn dark
and hell freezes over
Not until everything we've ever known
slowly fades into inexistence
Not until the entire universe
is captured by anticipating silence
Only then will we embrace each other
Only then will we be free
Only then will we understand
that all of life's answers have always been there-
within our reach
Only then will we see
that we were the cause of our own extinction
But then...
it'll have been too late
As the last second ticks away,
the universe
and the only life it's ever known
shall be wiped away
into nothingness
