Chemistry With No Meaning
An empty hallway.
So quiet the tiniest squeak sounds like the loudest roar.
But not as lonely as you’d expect.
Unfinished conversations still linger,
skid marks from kids trying to beat the bell.
Then there’s him.
Roaming these lonely halls,
trying to avoid any hall monitors that would try to send him back to Chemistry.
He doesn’t care about the interaction of atoms or the energy between two objects,
or any other useless thing that teacher tries to teach him.
As he slips through these halls
his music on full blast
not even aware of what song is playing
the only thing replaying in his mind is her laugh, her smile,
-the way her eyebrows bunch up when she’s mad.
The only thing he can think about in that dead chemistry class is why she can’t find any attraction between
them?
He thinks of the perfect words to tell her because there is no turning back once he does.
She’s his bestfriend.
He’s trying to plan the perfect experiment to see if his hypothesis is correct, if you buy a girl chocolates
and tell her how beautiful she is a million times maybe then she’ll see you more than just a friend.
He’s alone in this plain old hallway.
He’s passed here a million times,
not one time has it been different than the rest.
But in this empty hallway he knows he’ll change everything.
He’ll make her his,
and maybe then there’ll be more life to this hallway,
more color, more finished conversations, more hugs, more energy, more everything !
Now he’s confident,
Now there’s a pep in his step,
making his way back to Chemistry,
ready to impress everyone because knows he got it figured out.
As he stands outside that door,
he gets a little peek of her award-winning smile and honey brown hair.
He walks in and takes his rightful seat right next to her.
Now she was going to be his.
