The Tragedies of Growing Up
In the mirror…
We no longer see ourselves with our own eyes
but through the mind of someone else's
  Using powder to
Cover up our red spots of shame
  Constantly worrying about...
  What would he think?
  Going out…
The familiar aroma of the ice cream store
Takes your mind back to the time you were both young children
In a world of your own, you were laughing over your chocolate double scoop sundaes
with sprinkles and a cherry on top
Back then being 'just friends' was ok
It was no crime to share countless moments of cone crunching
and then ending up with the sweetness dribbling down your chin and staining your clothes with unforgettable memories
  That flashback is a blur
  When you see him now
  With a different perspective
The only thing on the table
is a cup of iced coffee
  With two straws
  And he already paid
  He leans forward...
  Wanting you more than anything
  But you're just not ready
  So he won't accept you
Slamming the door leaves a screeching sound in your ears
and an aching pain in your heart
Taking a sip of the drink
  You realize that
In the tragedies of growing up
Life is no longer a box of chocolates
It is just like the ice coffee
  Icy
  And…
  Bitter
