Walls

 We are surrounded by walls.

Afraid to explore what great adventures can lie around us,
Afraid to explore in us,
We are sheltered, protected and taught to fit in.
But it’s ok to take a chance,
Explore the world around you.
Be the change that allows and motivates others to explore around them and in themselves.
Another poem hides between the vast amount of food in my pantry.
When we tell mom, “There’s no food in the house,”
When in actuality there is a whole pantry packed with food.
Think of the people around the world,
Oh what they would give to eat from my pantry.
You don’t think the cereal bars and the pop tarts are “good enough”,
Others would think a piece of bread is good,
I can’t imagine the thought in my head,
Of missing any meals.
I will never take food for granted,
By thinking of the people around us.
Other poems lie beneath the glossy photo frames,
The pictures, memories and joy in these pictures.
Oh what I would give to go back to these days,
To live it again,
One of the happiest memories stares me in the eye every time I wake up.
The people that were there,
Are not here now.
We miss their laughter, their joy, and their happiness,
But think of your life without these memories.
I bet it wouldn’t be the same

The most obvious things around me have inspired me to write this piece. I hope that people won't take for granted what is around us.
