In Chalk
It’s been 96 days
Since I saw you.
In chalk you wrote our fathers name
On the ancient bricks of Wrigley Field
Chalk fades--
You should know.
November will come
pouring down on the bricks
And take his name.
But he won’t leave--
He walks on--
Like a phantom he’s in our veins
We are his host
Housing him in our blood stream
It’s been 96 days
Since I’ve heard from you
The deafening silence
Between us
Whispers to the rain about him
And what I’ve learned is
His blood that pools in my veins runs thicker
thicker than family
And I don’t need you.
I have the tides on my sides
I have the moon to show me the way
I have all I need already pouring through my veins
