The Mahogany Statue
The finer things that I receive bore me
For Jewels, Metals, and Fabrics don’t appease
This luscious feeling of satisfaction
that I cannot put at ease
That is until the day of my birth
For I was bestowed something of thought
It was a statue carved of Mahogany wood
That read “Cherish this for my time is for naught”

When people read this poem I wanted them to understand that something that can be cherished makes for a better gift than those that can't.
