"An eye for an eye makes the world blind," -Ghandi.

The world is dull
No color or pigment coats its flat surface.

Those who dwell in sidewalk streets
See at as such

Each bystander choses to view life with a perpetual gray tone.

One man walks his life gazing at the floor
He shields his eyes behind sunglasses
Hiding 5 years of a failed marriage
Through black aviators.

A woman drives the streets with windows down.
Clutching a cigarette between decaying fingers.
The toxic fumes released into the air are a cry for help.
She grips onto the wheel as she holds onto her will to continue living.

A family resides in a street alley
Dressed in rags they struggle to live by loose change.
A son, daughter, and mother.
Although their life seems to be one filled perpetual poverty, there is hope.

The boy gazes out at the world with wonder
He sees it for what it could be and not what it is.

The mother looks to the future with longingness
Yet knows that sympathy will only drive her deeper into debt and famine.

The girl looks at the world with kaleidoscope eyes.
Fractals of decadent colors and crystalline glass.
Her eyes have never been filled with tears, despite her father’s countless nights of abuse.

She smiles at the sky and it baby blue shade of innocence
The birds that sing sweet morning songs
The grass that tickles her back as she sleeps.
The girl is always thankful and not resentful

Despite years of hardships and black tar matted walls that imprison.
There is color.
Pessimistic eyes stay shut but for those with kaleidoscope eyes scoping the beauty of the earth; it is neverending.
The world is not dull
People only choose to see it as such.
