Crumbling City
Somewhere in the basement of my soul,
Lies a fear that I’ve only just acknowledged.
An insufficient amount of time-
Alloted to unpack an ocean of boxes,
And sort anticipation into a future
That has not been promised.
None of it is fair.
To base an eternity off of a weak foundation,
And expect skyscrapers to stand strong
Against the unmerciful winds of time.
Though concrete eventually crumbles,
Scaffolding stands like bones,
And happiness remains only an aspiration.
