Two Birds
There were two birds
who made a home
in a lonely tree.
one bird wished to stray
and see the world
because everything was beautiful
from high up.
the other bird wanted to stay
because he had already seen
far too much.
the second bird asked the first bird
why they were unhappy with what they had
and the life that they had made together
and the first bird replied
that they had never been unhappy
and wanting to wander did not make you lost.
the first bird left that day
to see what had yet to be seen
and when she did not return
the wind seemed to whisper to the second bird:
I do not love the world more
than I loved you
I love it just as much
and
there are so many things
left to love.
