Handprints across Time
Muddy handprints
cover walls
In caves worldwide
They leave us a marker
Of a choice made,
A home made
When you reach out and layer
Your hand upon theirs,
Their hand upon yours,
Years past are tapped into,
And a connection is made
From now to the future.

When writing this poem, I was thinking about how handprints are one of the things universally found in caves inhabited by humans. It seems to be a universal symbol of 'somebody was here', and it's interesting to think about all of these handprints being rediscovered and connected to the present.
