The best thing in every kid’s life,

May be a sport, a person, and your life
But just as important -- you know!
Is something we call your “Get up and Go”.

Let me tell you a little about mine
I suppose it is at its rise
Although I know I will grow older
I’ll smile and grin for where my Get Up has been

In Ohio, which is all I know,
I keep going strong, hopefully until my end
Due to some fortunate circumstances
I spent some time in California and Maryland

Training and drilling the football way
Has started my Get Up again
During September we had some tough times we had
But it all paid off and it wasn’t so bad

Sticking together was priority number one
I hope those days are never gone
My Get Up had had its ups and downs
Moving from sport to sport, and time to time

And finally to the US of A
Here came my grandpa, head high all the way
His life, here he spent most of his days
He was happy, year after year

Although I had no problems with my Get Up and Go
Neither in California or way back at home
But no matter where my Get Up had been
Where ever they start they also begin

While some can no longer work
I like to keep pushing and trying again
Now I stand on a field, feeling all alive
I know this won't last for long, so I just make it count

When I sink my teeth in a juicy steak
I feel alive and well, and now I can’t wait
so I have to get outside in play
Because I know that not everyone can stay gold forever

When I grow up I know what to do
I’ll make the most out of life, I just hope I’ll remember
I wish that everything was about me
But one day I’ll be the star, you’ll see

One day my youth will be all out of time
My Get Up and Go will be gone for a while
But I really don't mind I’ll get it back again
When I remember the great places my Get Up has been

I’ll try to Get Up each morning and have a good day
I’ll read the paper and read the “obits”
And I’ll know that if I’m not in there
I’ll be alive and well

I’ll know “nothing can stay gold forever”
Not now, not ever.

In remembrance of my great opa
He was gold to me
