I Don't Know
“Where do you plan on going to college?” she inquired.
“I don’t know,” he mumbled.
“Do you at least know what you wanna do?” she questioned.
“I don’t know,” he repeated, only more annoyed.
“What do you mean you don’t know? Everyone has at least a little plan.” She continued, “You could have a general plan since you graduate next year.”
“It’s a big decision,” he answered, “I don’t want to fail or regret decisions that I make while I’m young and stupid.”
“You’re not going to make a mistake. You’re a smart kid, you’ll figure it out soon,” she assured.
“But what if I don’t? I pay thousands of dollars to what I think I want and then it’s all down the drain if I realize I messed up.”
“Well what’s something you thought of for the future?” she continued on the future.
“The world,” he whispered just loud enough for her to hear.
“The world?”
“I want to see it. Experience it. There’s more in the world than the Midwest and I want to learn from it and about it. I want to meet people and share what our lives have seen and done. I don’t want to live a quiet life of college, work, marriage, kids, and death. I want to explore before I die. I just want to see something bigger than myself.”
“How are you going to do that then?”
“I don’t know…”
