Sincerely Yours, Society
My world is falling, I can’t even begin,
To tell you every mistake and sin.
To scream, to fall, to yell, to cry.
To rid myself of every lie.
My heart is burning, I’m on fire,
A boiling bright blaze, it’s my time to expire.
A cry for help is left unheard,
Every sentence, every word.
Society is deaf when I have something to say,
Society is blind when I feel the need to pray.
Oblivion shouts in their ears,
My vision is blurry from the flood of tears.
My sincere apologies have always been true,
For I am sorry for the things I was unable to do.
I am falling, falling into an eternal sleep,
Sometimes you can’t heal wounds this deep.
I’m sorry for not being who you wanted me to be,
Sorry for being different, sorry society.
Im sorry for being too young, too old.
Sorry for being too timid, too bold.
Too confined, too free.
I’m sorry, truly, for being me.

The poem I wrote focuses on the topic of mental illnesses, depression, societies views on what beauty is, bullying and self esteem issues. I chose to write my poem based on this because it is an increasing problem worldwide for millions of teenagers and adults. I hold the belief that many teenagers are put down because of societies view on what makes a person attractive, and also because of how many are looking down and insulting others based on their appearance. The purpose of this poem is to raise recognition and awareness of the growing issue, and to make the reader see from the perspective of an unstable teenager.
