Submit
Congratulations! You did it!
You hit submit!
Now for the best part...
*Drum-roll*
The wait!
It hits you like a slap in the face
the moment your hand leaves the safe place of your mouse.
It’s no longer in your hands.
It’s flying somewhere through wireless networks and broadband.
“You'll feel so relieved!”
“You'll get to bed earlier and actually get some sleep.”
Lies.
What if they don't like me?
What if they defer me just to spite me?
The school of my dreams
is haunting me it seems.
And I'm terrified.
I’ve already started my countdown
for the fateful day of December 8th.
My future will be decided on that day.
Dear God, I pray that I get into Florida State!
Anxiety and fear.
What am I going to do
until that long anticipated e-mail gets here?
At the same time, I’m psyched!
That essay seemed like it took a year to write,
What if I didn’t submit it right?
Congratulations, you hit submit.
Now about that next application,
have you finished it?
Here we go again...

After undergoing the stressful process of submitting my first college application to Florida State University, I was inspired to write this poem about the fear that follows after hitting submit! I hope that this humerous and relatable poem will lessen the stress of other students who are going through the same process and are haunted by the idea of not getting accepted to their dream school.
