Our Mother Earth
Learn from our mother earth
From her storms,
And from all her calms.
Hear her rage,
as we have caused it,
but feel her love and protection,
for her motherly instincts will not fade
despite our destructive behavior.
We build her up, and we break her down.
We burn her, we poison her,
even though we need her.
Our mother earth endures the anguish,
for she loves us in the way
that the sun loves the moon
and the stars love each other.
There are many keen men in this world,
men with plenty to preach.
But our mother earth,
she is the wisest of all.
She has stayed quiet while
watching, hearing, and feeling us,
for billions of years.
The poetry of mother earth is never dead,
we just need to listen.
