The infuriated defensive line
The mix of B.O. and dirt
“Down, Set, Hike”
As the Quarterback says this
I look into the lines of the defensive tackle
The seconds between each word feels like minutes
My pads slam into the other players,
Creating a hate filled bond.
I must overpower him to protect
My Runningback and Quarterback
As i'm blocking, I start to chew
on my mouthguard
The taste of dirt and grass
As I hear cheering, I look up and see
Our Runningback running for a touchdown
No matter what the score was,
I still fought with my team
The only way I would leave that field
Is on a stretcher.
