The Ride of My Life
Adrenaline and anxiety buzzing through me
All the way down to my toes, cultivating in my tummy
The banging of the drum and the hollering in my ears
Can’t tell if it’s my nerves threatening to spill out of me
A slap on the back and a fist bump or three
I’m then descending to the salty sea
More waiting for my empty seat
Push off then it’s time to conquer and defeat
Paddles up! Take it away!
Focus in, eyes in my own boat
Attention please, GO!
Up two, three, four, five
My ATP dissolving away without me realizing
Until I hear; Ready accelerate now
Salty mist hitting me right in the face
BOOM BOOM BOOM the beat of the drum driving me to that finish line
Harsh winds assaulting me with no remorse
But then I hear, Three.Two.One PUSH!
My lungs refusing to comply with the request of more oxygen
Then I’m immediately fueled by the surge and glide of ‘almost there’
Here we go… Finish it now! Push it! Dump it! All you’ve got!
Lost of feeling from the legs up, but I’ve GOT MORE!
Drive! Sending me into a frenzy, leaving no amounts of energy
FINISH for five creeping us past that line leaving behind the others.
