Dandelion Fuzz
I pluck up one of my first memories
Six years old in the outfield of a tee all game
“Dandy-lion” fuzz scatter across the blue sky
White specks of independence
Hope and the future
Don't quite go hand in hand
At six years old, wishing, hoping
On a dandelion
Releasing from what it used to be
Becoming free
But the past isn't the green stem of an unborn flower
And the future isn't a light, airy zephyr
Carrying you and your dreams lightly through the oncoming years
At six you're a dreamer
At twelve you're naive
At sixteen you're broken
At seventeen you're a dandelion
Without the white fuzz
Someone who let go, but still lives in the past
With nothing left to offer,
But salty tears and nostalgia
