She Forgot to Remember
She remembers the happenings from the past,
But not as much from the present.
She mostly remembers the good in life;
It seems she forgets the bad.
Often she doesn't recognize those she knew so well.
She asked, "Who are those two boys standing there?"
Oh, the shock when she's told they're her grandsons.
She asked, "Who is the tall man over there?"
And couldn't believe it was her own brother, and was
Even more startled when she learned they shared the same mother.
With a roll of her eyes and as innocent as could be, she said,
"Well, I guess I forgot to remember."
She talks about being a little girl
And how she wishes she could skate just one more time
Down the little hill on which she used to play.
How she wishes she could bake one more cake to decorate.
Oh, at first I felt so bitter.
How could God allow this to happen?
He soon helped me see that good comes from every trial
When I realized how she no longer complains of the heavy burdens she used to bear.
She no longer habors anger for the neighbors from so long ago.
She no longer knows the ill words about her that she thought were said.
I thank God now; He knows what's best;
She's happy and content.
Thank you God, for allowing us to put our trust in You.
Thank you, God, for helping Grandma remeber to forget.
