We are those who wear blue

We are those who show up to anything
We are those who can never be right,
No matter what we do.
We are those who wear blue.

We joined young and eager to change the world,
But faced with everyday tasks we begin to change ourselves.
The daily horrors and heartbreaks of everyday that face us.
The smiles we had young when we thought we could change the world,
Have changed to stone cold straight faces so no one can tell how we feel.
Seeing the horrors of what man can do to another man,
To the heart break and holding back tears of tearing families apart.
We are those who wear blue.

When we were young we wore our wedding bands and had pictures of our loved ones,
But as we got older we learned we couldn’t.
The battle on the front lines slowly comes home,
The everyday tasks we face follow us home and haunts us.
The mornings we woke up with a smile and kissed our spouses before we left,
Turn in to straight cold faces as we walk out the door,
The next time we walk in our door divorce papers sit on the counter with a note.
Our children wait for us to come home, stand by the door when we pull in.
The first thing they ask is to play,
and when we were young we did after we hugged them and thought about how lucky we were after all the heart break we see daily,
but as we got older we hugged our kids and said I’m too tired.
When we were young we thought we’d be the cool parents,
But when we got older we learned we were to mean ones because we didn’t want our kids to be like the people we deal with daily.
We tell our families we love them before we leave, them or hang up the phone
Because we never know if we’ll ever get the chance to tell them again
We are those we wear blue.

When we were young we took an oath to protect and serve,
As we got older we took a personal oath to protect ourselves, our family and our brothers and sisters in blue.
We are those who wear blue.

When we were young we watched the news to see all the good we did,
Now that were older we watch as our brothers and sisters go down because they did they’re job.
When we were younger we thought the media who talk about all the good things,
Now that were older we realized the public hates us.
We are those who wear blue

We never had racist thoughts on our mind.
We never wanted to kill anyone either
When we were young we never thought we’d have to take another humans life,
As we got older we the harsh reality of maybe I will have to drop the hammer sets in.
When we were younger we thought the people would love us,
Now that we’re older we know more people just want us dead then anything.
When we were young we approached everyone like a normal person,
Now that were older we approach everyone with our hand on our gun ready to draw.
We are those who wear blue.

We aren’t racist
We don’t want to kill people
We have families back home,
We want to see when we get home
We are just people
We are those who swore to protect and serve and uphold the law
We are those who can’t do our job anymore
We are those who fear for our families safety and wellbeing and our lives
We are those who if we do our job end up in a 6 x 9 x 12 but if we hesitate and don’t do our job we end up 6ft under.
We are the Men and Women of law enforcement.
