Elders
When I was little I could’t wait to grow old
To be respected, educated, and have all my stories told
But in our society now it is considered as a curse
To be wrinkly, and bald things can only get worse
Before, being old was being in your prime
But in our materialistic superficial world being in your twenties is the time
Elders used to be our main source of education
Now we shut them up with all sorts of medications
and tell then to try meditation
Only to send them on vacation
to a home,
a retirement home
Where they will slowly learn that they will die all alone
When you were little and helpless they never gave up on you
But now when they start acting up, you walk away and say we are through
We need to provide them all the respect that we can give
Because in the end we will never know how long they will live
