The Army

The Army (Jake)
Studying his eyes
Hoping I would find the lie
Knowing he won’t come back
Trying to accept the fact

Smelling the dip
Watching the parents flip
Old school bike rides
Curfew lies

Running till we can not breath
Reeling in fish till we fall to our knees
Knowing he won’t come back
Trying to accept the fact

Laughing at all the losers who didn’t slice waves
Knowing that we had to make fun of Baby Dave
Skimming over all the impossible waves
Booing all of Fleury's saves

High court back flips
Laughing at Paul's first sip
Knowing he won’t come back
Trying to accept the fact

Counting down the days
Listening to the obnoxious trumpets play
Setting off fireworks on jfk
Knowing he will be okay

Saluting my soldier
Knowing he has gotten much older
Accepting the fact
That I will be okay if he never comes back
