I've been bruised
And I've been abused
I've been slapped
And I've been wacked

I’ve been hurt
And I’ve been burnt
I’ve been beat
Left in the streets

I’ve been kicked
And I’ve been whipped
It’s been shown
I have no home

I’ve been black
And I’ve been blue
My confidence?
That never grew

I've been broken
Ain't no hopin’
No time for moping
I’m just coping

I've been scared
But no one cared
Feeling so torn
Should’ve never been born

Living life as a slave
It's hard to be brave
Standing here
Alone in my cave

I sit here and cry
Can’t keep my eyes dry
Pain in my chest
The knife never left

NO will to live
No love to give
No hand to hold
Tomorrow’s untold

First time in my life
There's an open door
No more sitting here
On the cold hard floor

I’m out
Im free
Ready to be
Who I’m supposed to be

I’ll be a good boy
I’ll make someone proud
The best part of me
You'll see

The author's comments:

Poem was inspired by a book "The Child Called It" and "The Lost Boy" by David Pelzer

Its about one of the worst child abuse cases in california.

A boy named David, who went through hell as a young boy.

David's will to live is strong. Dispite his horrible past he turns his life around and looks toward a better and more positive future.
