red lipstick
you remind me of red lipstick.
  pretty on some,
  ugly on others.
  then you leave a stain.
  you looked good on me.
but i don’t want you here
  anymore.
  i don’t want you
  smeared on me.
  not at all.
and i’m trying to get you off.
  i’m trying
  very hard.
  i’m scrubbing,
  hard
at the corners of my soul.
  it’s not working.
  you’re lingering
  and it’s ruining
  the rest of me.
you remind me of red lipstick.
  pretty on some,
  ugly on others.
  and now you’ve stained me.
