I was stuck in a cave and didn’t know how to get out
It was dark and there was not much to do
I knew it would take a very long to get out
It was a scary experience but I managed
The first day felt long and taxing
The rest of the days advancing
Stress ran through my body
I kept walking and never backed down
The only way out was at the end
My goal was to get there
It was wintry
Nowhere to go
Nowhere to run
No one to talk to
Quiet like emptiness in a chamber
I trudged and trudged along until I could see myself
The cave became luminous but still long ways to go
The further I walked, the more the cave became lighter
Until the finale, where I had been on top of the podium

My poem is called a narrative poem because it tells a story. It’s about my first year in the high school. The cave is a metaphor for my school. Not only is there a metaphor for school, every line is a metaphor. Walking through the cave is a metaphor for getting through the school year. It represents how my school year went by so far. It was very hard and scary but so far I managed very well. Being a Freshmen you tend to feel lonely sometimes walking through the hallways and that’s when I’m walking through the cave. Finally when I see the cave get lighter, it means that the school year is progressing and I accomplished a lot.
