When we were younger,
We were told that
We shouldn’t play
With our food,
And to eat all of it
Because there are
Starving kids in africa.

But what we’re not told
Is that people die everyday
In America from starvation.
Some even Children.

We were told to
Treat everyone the way we
Want to be treated

But we’re also told
To stay away from those
Kids laying in the street
Because they’re strange
And unwanted.

Were not told that
The reason that kid is lying
In the street is because
He was kicked out for the reason that
He thought his best friend, Matt
Was cute.

But what were also not told
Is that there’s someone
Right now, holding a razor
To his wrist, wanting to
End it all because the kids
At school don’t accept him
And don’t know that he gets
Enough beatings at home.
And the bully pushes him down
And calls him names everyday
Which doesn’t help his case any.

But were supposed to treat
everyone the way we
Want to be treated
So how does this happen?

Is this the way you
would want to be treated?

We were told to always be
Ourselves and to stand up
For what we believe in

But some schools don’t
Even say the pledge
For it’s use of the word
God.

Were told that everyday
A soldier dies for us
Were taught about the
Endless wars where
Soldiers fought for our
Freedom

But I can’t wear a shirt
That has a gun on it
Even for the Armed Forces
Because it’s seen as “Offensive”

Were told that we have a voice
And we should use it.
But when we have anything
To say about political issues
We get shut down and told
That we have no idea about
What we’re talking about.

My generation is the one
That people say is going to
Be stupid, and run the Earth into itself.

But the people telling us this
Are the ones who raised us.
And to be honest, everything
We do is to fix the problems
we’ll be left with.

If were told all these things
When were young,
Why is it that we can’t
Do it when we grow up?

Maybe the reason
Kids always get in trouble
Or question authority is
Because we're told to do
One thing and then told
To do the opposite by
someone else.

But we’re also told to
Not question authority
So I don’t know.
