Ballad of Immortality
On this place you call Earth,
some want to live forever
Yet from the day of my birth,
It's something I never wanted to weather.
The power is grand,
but stuck here I stand
While others leave for true home
I am stuck in my bones.
I grow tired of days
As time gently glides away
But only for others, not for me
As I am here for eternity
As my Sun sets in the East,
And rises in the same
Waiting for someday, hoping
I'll soon enter the astral plane
My Sun will never meet the West
As hard as I might try
Like a blunt knife it causes pain
But not a single wound in sight
I never see my Moon
Her beautiful shining face
Hidden and clouded
By the horrors of this place
They say death comes to the cursed
And immortality to the blessed
But death is the gift
Giving off eternal rest
But rest is never to be mine
As the river keepers cry nine times
These poor souls under spells
In their own flowing hell
As am I, though not as seen
The treacheries I live, they gleam
Sparkling little silver shoes
Four by four and two by two
I will never see my wonderful Elysium
And those I love, I shall never be with them
For the power I have, that I wield and hold
Are shackles they've made of finest gold
Hades be it, please let me in
For those I love I committed this sin
I did not know I could perform such feats
And did not know the consequence of my leap
So now my bells,
they dong but not ding
And my Sun it does shine,
but not on me
Immortal as I am
As much as I've seen
I know there are times
We should not believe
When Olympus turns to Hades
And back once again
And Tartarus I begin
To see as a friend
But only because
they live on with me
In my beautifully tragic prison
Of immortality.

This piece was inspired by a story I read. The author of the story really made you understand how the characters were feeling and I wanted to do the same with my piece.
