I Am You
I am everywhere.
I am the tall trees that
Give shade to you.
I am the babbling brook
That quenches your thirst.
I am the rocks and stones
You use to build your domains.
I am everything.
I am the bugs and weeds
You crush underneath your foot.
I am the birds and beasts
You kill for nourishment.
I am the light of the sun
That punctures your skin
like the finest blade.
I am everywhen.
I am your innocent years,
Spent playing outside in the cool air.
I am your future,
Cloudy and distant yet
Hopeful and bright.
Why then do you threaten me?
Who are you, may I ask?
I know what you are.
You are all my children.
Yet you, like all children to their innocence,
Have abandoned me.
What folly!
Don’t you remember
I am you?
