The True Killer
I wake in the early morning bright
Sunlight gleaming through the trees
In that moment my mind came up
With a routine early morning bad idea
College is the true killer
My addled mind thought
I must find a way to avoid it
No matter the cost
Being alive is nice, a motivation to flee
My parents however had different plans
For there on the kitchen table to my horror
Was a college application for me to sign.
Their minds would not change
No matter how hard I pled
No matter how much I wept
Their minds would not change
In that moment a smell entered the room
My mother and father offered me
What one would consider a bribe
Cinnamon buns, my one weakness
