“I can’t go back to yesterday, because I was a different person then.” --Lewis Carol's Alice in Wonderland

Drifting away at sea
Water fills my lungs
Slowly
Slowly

An inevitable death
That's stealthily crawling
Closely
Closely

I see the sunlight through
The darkened rippling blue
Shining
Shining

And as I swim upwards
I find myself
Smiling
Smiling

My head unsubmerged
I struggle to breathe
Coughing
Coughing

I take a quick glance
And around me I see
Bodies
Bodies

Some hacking for air like me
Others floating
Lifelessly
Lifelessly

Not everone makes it
Through the trial of life
Drowning
Drowning

Many die a death at sea
There bodies couldn't
Withstand
Withstand

The current they had
To swim against
Strengthened
Strengthened

It's not long before
Another storm
Brews and
Brews and

I'm pulled back down
To face the water
Again
Again

Many die a death at sea
And the next death
Could be me
It could be me

This is really powerful.
