Old Foot-hills
You say you felt that pain;
Had the same tear-stained face as I did
But did you feel yourself break?
Everything you ever wanted dissipate
Into a heap of useless work
All the extra work, hopeful wishing
Intrinsic pep talks; that one day
One day it would all be worth it
But the day came and went
With nothing but regret
Did you feel the pity?
Of those who knew;
Knew of the struggles, the hope
Did you hear the snap?
The sound of my heart breaking
My resolves shattering at my feet
It’s time to move on but yet;
I’m still behind, unable to move past
It’s new, this feeling of emptiness
For the hopes have been spent
All on one dream, one hope
One big heart-wrenching disappointment
But it doesn’t matter
Doesn’t represent anything to those who’ve obtained
Tossing my biggest dream around carelessly
As I watch just wishing I could catch and hold it
Maybe I’ll look back;
With new dreams bigger than ever
Laughing at how small my dreams once were
I hope that day comes soon
So that this emptiness can be replaced;
With joy, fulfillment of holding that dream
Replacing that old foot-hill with a mountain
It may be all for one and one for all
But all has now been redefined
All is now blood, sweat, and tears
One is now fulfillment and achievement
Now I reject all failures that come for me
For they understand not who I have become
But look for who I once was
