Can you hear it?

The sound of the wind

whistling its' melodies

across the world

and singing hymns of joy

and beauty.

Can you see it?

The vivid colors of the sunset

filling the sky

and the alive green color of the trees

bringing life

and the flowers blooming.

Can you feel it?

The warmth of the sun

and its' protecting shield

leaving us unworried

as we travel around

to hopeful places.

Can you taste it?

The air in which we all breathe

being united as a whole

while the grass becomes muddy

and the worms start to disperse

leaving our taste buds numb.

Can you smell it?

The smoking grill

cooking the usual hotdogs and hamburgers

and the wind bringing in unusual smells

from all over the world

making us wonder.

The author's comments:

As I was researching a few poems by my favorite poet, Maya Angelou, I came across one that was named "Caged Bird." I found that Angelou just "went with the flow" while writing this poem, and what I mean is that, her poem flowed, like a continuing sentence. Each stanza was an on-going sentence. I found this quite fascinating, that I used this technique in my poem called Senses. I'm a lover of nature, so I wrote a poem based on what I see, hear, smell, tatse, and feel as I go about my day outside. I take lots of pictures of the skies, trees, big buildings, small buildings, coffee shops, flowers, etc. I just like to take time and admire the beauty that's around me. My poem will take one on a small journey, having one utilize their five senses.
