Amber
time and flesh is the constituent
of the plains of reality.
Do not walk the same meadows,
do not scrape your knees with the same grass,
the weeds will deposit seeds
and you will carry the same grasslands
between your toes.
the history of life has been scattered
like the fragments of meteors across the earth.
Our past lives have been hidden
in the heart of a plum fruit,
in the smallest spore of a fern,
between the lightbulbs of fireflies
and the dust of moths that scatter in our home
Trace your origin, do not dwell in the past
travel the desserts and gaze the stars,
remember the forgotten language that they pattern.
Go to the beach where your father taught you to swim,
listen to the shell by the shore,
it will whisper all of the names you forgot.
Find a chunk of amber
that holds time frozen like gold.
The mosquito that's trapped
contains the blood of your ancestry,
the beginning on how
we walked the earth like gods
