Morning
I love waking up on summer mornings at the lake
when I walk outside to humid air
the sweet smell of bacon being fried
and the sounds of boats roaring in the distance
I watch as the fog rolls against the water
coming towards me as if it’s going to embrace me for a hug
I shudder as the wetness of the morning dew seeps into my skin like poison
I hop to the concrete and run inside
I’m greeted by the smell of sweet breakfast food and sunscreen
making the butterflies in my stomach come alive and flutter up my throat into a yawn
excitement fills the air as my little cousins run around in their swimsuits, ready for the day
I sit out on the deck and look out over the lake
watching the sun make its way high in the sky ready to burn the most delicate skin
an occasional jet ski or boat will rumble by
I sit back and enjoy the sounds of summer while the heat creeps up my skin
