Once Upon a Time

Once upon a time
there was a girl so blind
confused yet unconfined
They feared her
and gave her pills.
And this worked for a while
but she soon became vile
and refused to be seen
for weeks.

And once upon a time
this girl was mad
with the life she had
she grabbed the blade,
but dropped it on the sink.
And then she pondered,
lost she wandered,
around her house
for days.

So once upon a time
the girl came to know
that she could grow,
If They would let her go
and fix what They had done.
She went to Them,
And implored to Them,
to let her have
It back.

But once upon a time
They couldn’t understand
that invisible hand
couldn’t understand
what she wanted.
They begged her to leave
tried to make her believe
that what They were doing
was right.

And once upon a time
she saw They were scared
They wouldn’t have dared
give in to her desire
of what she wanted.
Her dream of being free
of getting to be
like the people that she
was able to be
in dreams.

But once upon a time
the girl understood
what only wise men could
about the disease
she carried within.
If she was free
then she would be
under the ground
in a week.

So once upon a time
a girl was distraught
because They thought
that she had been given
the right mix.
It was for her own good
but honestly should
something so good
be so wrong for someone
like her?

But once upon a time
she took a stance
and They gave her a chance
to prove to Them
she was right.
They rerouted the road
and found the right code
to where she could live
in peace.

Once upon a time
a girl was alive
but struggling to thrive
in a world that did not
understand her.
But she hoped and prayed
that maybe someday
she could live the life
she desired.
