"Pain is temporary, quitting is forever"

Screams and fires
Explosions and mute minutes.
I lay here hurt and in vain
hiding from death or maybe the fear of it
never will I know until it is too late
Now, tomorrow, the day after, who is to know?

Have we not learned from the past?
The pain, the struggle, the suffering?
We never move forward, we never forgive the past,
Oh, our hatred ever so steadfast

We polish these ‘defenses’ like cars
Taunt them like a child’s new toy,
Take no serious care of them, just ask John Oliver!
And yet we try to act as adults

Used on cities, on countries,
Used to split nations, used on the innocent
At first as to protect but now to scare and raise fear.
They were used as a way to sleep better at night,
But now some have forgotten the meaning of a good night’s sleep.

The trees have sighed, the rocks have sighed,
Good God has sighed.
They called it “Holy”
But what is so holy,
when blood and tears is to cover it,
when the peace the Lord desires is destroyed?
But what will you elucidate to the Lord after destroying His desire of peace?

You thought it was your “God” told duty?
That you were a special descendant?
Mentioned and meant to massacre in God’s name?
The Lord will have none of you!
Oh, and you, you only wanted your ‘own’ people.

And still we dispute in the name of the Lord!
PLEASE do not bring His name to this,
And now it begs a question to ask,
If you even know anything of the Lord?

Zeus taught His son untold secrets
But later even His own son changed for the worse,
Even today we are given the rights of choosing a path for life
But why do we choose to ruin a simple system to raise fear and hate?
But most of all why does man always choose the path of darkness?
Even Ares regretted his choices once in a while,
But we humans never learn from the past,

Today it is more than war,
Dirty politics, little grudges
We play life like a game,
We kill for a dirty fame.
Drugs, guns, gangs, and crime
They are all words we hear in the news,
All the things that ruin our world

We haven’t learned after two of them,
Wow, why does it feel like a surprise, that we haven’t learned from the past?

The Decameron
ten of us left here
ten stories to tell but all of them a little alike.

We soldiers leave behind family and friends for an unknown hate, for an ego? To show power? Over a difference? Over land and money?
We cannot sleep at night as we fear a night Hades has called our last is near.

I have seen these ten faces day in and day out and now soon never again.
I also see the faces of most of my friends staring away at something greater than man, there in a home now that is greater than man’s.

STEADFAST! So STILL, too STUCK, with this HATE!
But, steadfast a word too pure for this hate.

I now hide behind a wall weaker than my will
with seven other soldiers from something inevitable and no way out
What Preparations Can Be Made Due to The Plague?

Odysseus went off for a long time, he came back,
Today many do, but many also don’t.
And just like Odysseus,
Even the ones that make it back have more than the physical pain to suffer.

Millions of faces, Millions and Millions of lives!
More devastated family and friends every day,
Have we not learned this from the past?

and now in front of me is the inevitable
I guess I was hiding from the fear of death.
A man more scared than me behind that gun
He may be different from me, he is on the other side, but of course an “enemy”.
But how different is he?
Scared, in fear, and fighting for his own unknown reasons.

As much as I respected my orders
I never wanted anything to do with this
As it is another anger driven fight.
Look where it has landed all of my friends and me…

Our Decameron is over
The last soldier is down
Now it is only me.

I leave behind loved ones
My family told me to stay,
I told my wife it was going to be okay,
I told my kids I will came back and play,
I leave like liar, I hope they also do not think so,
But how different will my family be
From those who have lost their loved ones from war already?

I think I heard The Final Blast,
This war will be written down in history as it is now a part of the past,
No cries, no fire, just silence,
Maybe a peaceful death around these places.
I smiled to my enemy, he stood puzzled as if he’d lost and not me.
Oh, he is yet to be relieved of the word of war,
I guess I’m relieved now more than ever.

I ask many questions, but maybe I am my own sinner.
this steadfast hate,
This hatred ever so steadfast,

We never learn from the past…

The author's comments:

Our world is deteriating of itself, we humans have such a hate eachother we do not even realise how wrong we are sometimes. The recent bombings, weapon showoff, and crime increase is what inspired me.
