Life is like a stranger.
I don’t know him,
And he doesn’t know me.
We’re polite to one another though,
I’ll give him a soft smile,
And he’ll give one back;
Sometimes he stops to start a small conversation,
Just a quick hi, hello
And then we’re both on our way;
Sometimes it’s longer,
He needs someone to talk to
About how he got here and when he got here,
About where he needs to go and why he needs to go;
I’ll patiently sit
But every so often I glance at my watch,
I tap my feet,
And I let out a timid sigh;
He lets it all out
Everything from the day he was born to the day that he’ll die,
I listen because I know he needs me;
To confine in a face that he’ll never have to see again,
But as soon as he’s done, I’m up
Briskly walking in the other direction,
Never to look back.

Life is like a stranger.
I don’t know him,
But he wants to know me.

Life is so unexpected; much like the meetings between strangers.
