I look at her, smiling down at me
staring at me as though I was the only shimmer of light
shining from the sun above us.
The perfect image of each other
She holds the flowers I picked for her against her chest
as though they were like a ring
Precious and incomparably special.
the cooling air breezes past us, like voices
whispering in our ears as they pass by
Begging us to never stop laughing and smiling at each other.
Just me and my mother.
against the world
At least that’s how it should have been.
Why can’t I go back to this day?
we were so happy
Are you happy now mom?
I look down at the picture of that spring day
So beautiful, so warm.
So alive.
that was the last day I smiled
the last day I saw your face
Staring at me as though I was the only shimmer of light
Shining from the sun above us
are you happy now, mom?
at least one of us should be

This shows the loss of a mother, but the strong bond the daughter holds true
