Favorite Quote:
"In a gentle way, you can shake the world."

as a new person arrives
straight from the center of the universe,
they are completely untouched.
invincible and fragile,
with all the power of a million stars
it is truly something amazing.

they are a sheet of glass
shining, perfectly still
with edges curved to excellence.

but everyone has to shatter,
at one point or another.
that is the only way
for light, ideas
and deep wonderings about existence
to pass through.

once we have shattered
we are a million pieces of a glass
glistening beautifully
after being kissed by
the sun.
we become an unfinished masterpiece.
the product of a great artist
who lost sight of his paint brush.

and when you meet someone enchanting
at the age of 2, 16, or 43
you are not that fragile piece of glass anymore.
we as humans have given tiny piecwe of who we are
to these enchanters who have allured us
into really giving ourselves away.
the answer, my love, is to give freely
and hope you are given something back
in return.

and when they do the same for you,
the luminosity you feel in your bones
is enough to reignite a fallen star.
increasing all confidence and allowing you
to do nothing else
but love them.

but sometimes you give to much.
driving solemnly down a one sided street
giving this person everything inside you
dwelling on the hope that they will not
leave you feeling empty.

and in the end, we are not products of other people,
we are a thousand pieces of those who have intrigued us
those we have called back,
and those we wish would look up.

when all's said and done,
and we are ready to disperse back into
the universe,
we look like beautiful mosaics
a thousand different colors
of all the different pieces you have gathered
in a lifetime of loving
and being loved in return

The author's comments:

I wrote this poem when I was trying to figure out how were all so different from each other, even though we live similar lives. I then realized that we all become who we are when we are with other people, seeing how lovely people can be. I hope this poem inspires people to realize that you don't have to be exactly who you are yet. You still have a great amount of life left to find more pieces and discard the bad ones. Just live.
