What The Diagnosis Doesn't Say
Depression is engulfing.
Depression is laying awake in bed at two in the morning.
Depression is overwhelming, crushing loneliness.
Depression is finding disappointment in things you enjoyed.
Depression is not being able to recall the last time you felt “happy.”
Anxiety is inescapable.
Anxiety is a fist pulverizing your insides
Anxiety is drowning in irrational fear.
Anxiety is holding you back from being yourself.
Anxiety is screaming as loud as you can but nobody can hear you.
Eating Disorders are controlling.
Eating Disorders are when self-confidence is non-existent.
Eating Disorders are viewing food as an enemy.
Eating Disorders are the groaning pain from lack of food in your stomach.
Eating Disorders are the crumbling feeling you will never be good enough.
But Mental Illness does not define a person.
Mental Illness does not make a person less worthy.
Mental Illness does not mean the people who have them are weak.
Mental Illness does not differ from any physical illness.
Mental Illness is not something to be ashamed of.
