Are We Equal?
When I say the word “equality”
  What images come to mind?
All genders and races working in harmony
  With no differences, all aligned
  But is equality really possible
  To all be the same?
When we live in a world of such diversity
  Everyone different in some way.
How can we really be “equal”
  When we’re all so unique
Each of us crafted as different people
With different personalities that we be.
  Because we cannot disregard
The way our eyes shine in the night sky
Or the the sound of our laugh when we feel such joy
Or the smile we make every once in awhile
  We cannot push away
Every little thing we’ve been through
Because our experiences are the things that make us this way
And what make us, to ourselves, true.
So no, we are not all the same
But the very fact that we are all different
Is exactly what makes us equal

I wanted to write about equality, but from a different perspective. I wanted to write about all the ways that we are unique.
