The door clangs open as I step into the dark and dusty room,

A ray of light breaks through the door and interrupts the gloom.
The old summery smell welcomes me back,
Dishes and tupperware sit tranquilly on an old rusty red rack.
The scent of freshly washed linens wafts up from the sunshine yellow table,
It’s a familiar scent that keeps me calm and stable.
You can hear the sound of waves crashing softly up against the sandy shore,
A sweet breeze finds its way through the open door.
The sound of crickets surrounds you like a wool blanket at night,
If you go outside you might see the fireflies twinkling lights.
Soul and oldies blare on the stereo while the morning sun rises over the silent lake,
The humid heat presses on you without one break.
Visiting family in a house that has seen me grow up,
The comforting warmth of my favorite coffee cup.
Trips into town bring back thoughts of candy and ice cream,
It’s all one big hazy summer dream.
