Reflection of You
I've put on your sweatshirt at least a
thousand times
Looked at the worn edges
Felt the rough fabric against my skin
Memorized all the stains of dirt permanently embedded by yard work
Each time I feel the same thing
An emptiness that won't go away
as I push it further from my thoughts
Something is missing,
A void that can not be filled by the
material that hangs off my body
Causing me to be unglued from my life
Faking smiles
Faking laughs
Faking emotions
Only to come home and put on your sweatshirt
To see the way it consumes me
To look in the mirror
To see myself
To see you
Laughing at my jokes
Smiling at my accomplishments
Even yelling at my faults
I miss you
But I don't shed a tear
I just stare at the reflection
Waiting to find something within me that connects to you
My long legs
My tan skin
My wide eyes
All that and more are from you
Still I can't help but feel sad
That you are gone
That you can't come back
That I wasn't there
When you left
