Peter's Boy
My mother said I could be anything.
My sister asked to join.
We climb to our smiling seats,
Next to the splintering horse,
And took off.
She became my daring adventurer.
I became her daring prince,
Or even better,
Her daring lost boy.
The rustle of the far away trees
Meant there were fairies fluttering about.
The wooden wall was the jungle gym
Hiding us from the Indians,
And the pirates.
My long swords,
Falling from the fairies,
Protected my sister from the mermaids in our Blue Lagoon.
Wendy would call from the house,
And my adventurer and her protector
Scurried in for our mother’s delicious dinner.
