Fear is like a dish

That nobody wants to eat.

Fear walks around, invisible

So nobody can see him.

You may walk away,

Or run,

But somehow, fear gets inside of you.

Fear is like a dead end.

Fear is loneliness,

Even when people are around you.

You may walk away,

Or run,

But somehow, fear gets inside of you.

Fear is pure silence,

Pure stillness.

But sometimes, fear is a tornado,

Ripping your soul to shreds.

You may walk away,

Or run,

But somehow, fear will get inside of you.

Fear is a virus,

An incurable virus.

And fear stains your intestines,

So you never forget fear.

You may walk away,

Or run,

But somehow, fear will get inside of you.

The author's comments:

It is not easy growing up these days with acts of terrorism occurring all the time.  I wrote this after the Paris attacks.  The coordination of so many bad things happening at the same time was really terrifying to me.
