A Father's Love
She took one last glance,
Before vanishing behind the bend
Those last steps reminded me of the those she had taken
fourteen years ago.
Stumbling, yet courageous,
And without any fears to delay her purpose.
Her laughter rang in my ears
So sweet, yet strong
And embodied by pure joy,
without any loss of innocence
Or corruption of the future.
I remembered the look of utter bewilderment
At her “experiment” of dialing 911
And the faint sirens hastening to our home,
Or her undeniable fear mingled with determination
As she strode out onto the stage,
And I watched as her fingers danced on the ivory keys.
The last note of her sonata brought me back to present-day
And as I gazed out in the raw, morning air,
I relished in the memories of the last fifteen years as a father
And I glanced once more and forced myself to return to reality.

I was thinking of not my perspective, but of how my dad has viewed my childhood. I hope people will realize how much parents are devoted to their children and how fast childhood passes.
