Humans
A race of creatures both dignified and savage,
Beasts who build steel towers to touch the skies and show their power
Over the abhorred
Over the pitiful
Over the shamed
Humans create such tall, beautiful towers
To climb higher
Higher
Away from the thought of being another lowly beast.
Yet there is no escaping the primal side
The side they abhor
The side they pity
The side they shame.
It’s inside of them, no matter how they hide
Humans are monsters.
Monsters who show their dominance through violence
Attacking the abhorred
Attacking the pitiful
Attacking the shamed
Crushing the unworthy and spreading the seed of destruction to all that they touch
Like a parasite leaching Mother Earth of her bountiful gifts
Oil
Metals
Jewels
Lumber
And the gifts they take, as brats do, they then use to hurt Mother Gaia
As spiders devour the one who raised them into the world
We consume the earth
We drain our life line
We dig our graves
We die
We may think we are above the savagery
But we are just another
Destructive, powerful beast.
