#GIRLPOWER
Here’s to the girl that sits on the phone at 2 in the morning
Shirt drenched with the salty tears that tell her story
The one that represents her cries for help
She was still a baby when you pried her open & exposed her to the world
She was so blind and innocent when you held her down
Forced her to play in your charade
You took advantage of her when you were supposed to be protecting her
Protecting her from the people that were exactly like you
When are you going to show the world that you’re a monster that hides behind his charm
Stop being scared & take off your mask
Let them see how you forced her to look at you like you were some type of king
You left her to pick up all these shattered pieces alone
She wears those scars everyday like a winter coat – the visible and hidden ones
You left her to figure everything out on her own
How to trust after you
to love after being broken
Your touch still lingers on her skin
Your image still appears in her head
In today’s society everything is a constant reminder that she’ll never be anything
because you packed her self-worth and dragged that on with you years back
One day your daughter will look up at u with her big puppy dog eyes
and trust me, you’ll remember the innocence you stole
You’ll think of how you ruined her
Know that you will forever live inside of her
You made a home out of her and all of her parts
Scars, they fade, but memories they stick around a little longer
Her life is a constant reminder that karma may be busy but she never forgets

One night I was on the phone with my best friend since birth. We were watching a movie and she suddenly started to cry. She began to tell me that as a girl she was raped by one of the males in her family. As you can imagine it broke my heart to find out that someone I thought I knew everything about had experienced something so traumatic. And the crazy part is, she had hidden it for so long! I would have never guessed it. With us being friends for so long of course I knew who he was. I was shocked beyond belief. Thinking back he never seemed like the type to hurt anyone! She’s the most social, flamboyant, outgoing person you would ever meet. I couldn’t imagine living with a secret like that. I asked why she never told anyone and her response made me cry. She told me she was “afraid to tear her family apart”. It blew my mind that she cared about her family enough to live her life in secrecy. She said as she grew older it began to haunt her and she needed help telling her mom. We eventually figured out that sitting her mom down and explaining to her what happened from the first inappropriate touch to the day it all ended was best. She is now in consoling. She has always had such a good heart and I am extremely blessed to have her as a friend. She is so strong and has shown me so much.
