Various walks of life converge in a melting pot
Stirring and bubbling over.
A man tips his hat
And walks over the footsteps
Of many others
Leading to the open door of opportunity

The green majesty welcomes you
The bustle of people, shuffling of bags
Foreign tongues chirp throughout
Drawing out the silence of a baby
This was once the way.

On the other side,
Lies war and terror
Places where no one should survive
Haunted by weapons and chaos
Would this place ever be serene?

Shards pelt the air
Taking the hearts of many
Bodies pile up on top of each other
The click of the trigger rings through every village
Men scream, women scream,
A child screams and shields her sorrowful eyes
Leave. Leave. Now.

One foot, over the next
Migrate north, they said.
Looking over the horizon for that glimpse of hope.
Only to look back
and see the forgotten mess.
Leaving behind what once was home.

Charging through the rocky hills,
Balancing on feeble boats,
Hoping to reach a shore.
Cries are met with hands of joy.
A new chapter.
But this isn’t peace just yet.

The Syrian refugee crisis and how immigrants are attempting to seek refugee in other countries inspired me to depict their cries in this piece. These people are trecking miles and miles over dangerous territories and waters to finally feel freedom and be held against it. IWith the negative rhetoric coming from our political parties, I hope that people will realize the hardships that these people are facing and accept them.
